Muscogee Park at Brookline Triangle
This neighborhood park renovation was designed to honor the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, which is indigenous to Georgia. We worked closely with the neighborhood park committee and the Muscogee tribal council to meet historic neighborhood guidelines and incorporate culturally significant native plants and hardscapes, including sandstone from Oklahoma where the tribe was relocated during the Trail of Tears and now resides. The renovated park also includes a sidewalk mural depicting symbols of the Muscogee family clans, a memorial plaza and lending library with books by Native American authors, historical and cultural information signs, and a quote by renowned Muscogee author and United States Poet Laureate Joy Harjo. We coordinated with volunteers for the installation and participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by members of Atlanta’s city council and leaders of the Muscogee Nation.
